Professor Birch (Japanese name: オダマキ博士 Odamaki-hakase, Dr. Odamaki) is the Pokémon Professor of the Generation Ⅲ. He specializes in Pokémon habitats and distribution.

At the beginning of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, he is seen being chased by a wild Poochyena just outside Littleroot Town, and asks Brendan or May to choose between Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip from his discarded bag to save him.
In Pokémon Emerald: instead of a Poochyena, it's a Zigzagoon that chases him. Also, he allows the player to choose between one of the Johto region Starter trio (Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile), after having caught all 202 Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex (except Jirachi and Deoxys).

In the anime, he befriends a Poochyena and has a Wailmer, a Sharpedo, a Zigzagoon, a Lotad, a Seedot, and Shroomish in his lab.

Birch has the appearance of a stocky Caucasian man in his mid-30s. He has short brown hair and a brown beard. He wears a lab coat over a blue t-shirt, khakis, and a belt.
He is also often seen with a brown satchel.
