pope
The head of the Catholic Church. A pope is elected by a conclave of high-ranking Catholic priests, and typically rules for life. Popes traditionally renounce their birth names to adopt a traditional papal name, leading to many popes having the same name (with individual popes distinguished by a number).
Traditional pope attire consists of a mitre and priest robes in white, red, and gold. They may also wear a stole.
