Korean text can easily be discerned from Chinese and Japanese, thanks to the phonetic alphabet which contains a lot of ovals.

However, sometimes, use Hanja(Korean Kanji) like this art

Each letter consists of three parts.
In word 곰, this is ㄱ + ㅗ + ㅁ, g + o + m --> /gom/
In word 감, this is ㄱ + ㅏ + ㅁ, g + a + m --> /gam/

third part can be empty. like "미르 /mi'reu/", "섹스 /sek'seu/" "루나 /ru'na/"

When ㅇ come first part, It's empty
When ㅇ come third part, It sound "ng"
So, in word 용, this is empty + yo + ng --> /yong/

When ㄱ come third part, It sound "k"
So, in word 막, this is /mak/
