Simba is the eponymous main protagonist of Disney's 1994 feature film The Lion King and its franchise. He is the biological son of Mufasa and Sarabi, adoptive son of Timon and Pumbaa, adoptive brother of Bunga, nephew of Scar, mate of Nala, and father of Kiara and Kion.
Simba is a male lion with gold-brown fur and a red mane. He is depicted as cub without the mane and/or as a large muscular adult in most of Disney's media. Simba is loosely based on the character of Prince Hamlet form the Shakespearean play of the same name.
In the first film and its 2019 photorealistic CGI remake, he is introduced as the new Prince of the Pride Lands. As a cub, he eagerly awaits to become the new King, much to the jealousy of his uncle Scar. Through Scar's manipulations, Mufasa is killed, and Simba is led to believe that he is responsible for his father's death. Running away far from the Pride Lands, he meets the meerkat Timon and the warthog Pumbaa, and they raise him as their own in a jungle.
When Simba grows into an adult lion, he reunites with his childhood friend Nala. Though they both grow to love each other, Simba refuses Nala's suggestions to return to the Pride Lands and take his rightful place as King from Scar. Though after some convincing from Rafiki and his father's ghost, he finds the strength and courage to return to his home and take his rightful place as King.
After a battle with Scar with the help of his allies, Simba becomes King of the Pride Lands and restores peace. By the end of the film, he and Nala bear a daughter named Kiara.
In the first film, he is voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas as a cub and Matthew Broderick as an adult, with the latter reprising his role in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion King 1½. Jason Weaver provided cub Simba's singing voice in the first film, except for "The Morning Report" from the later Special Edition release, in which his cub singing voice was provided by Evan Saucedo. Joseph Williams provided adult Simba's singing voice in the first film, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride Active Play, and Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse. Cam Clarke voices the character as an adult in most other media and also provides the character's singing voice in Simba's Pride. In the photorealistic CGI duology, he is voiced by JD McCrary as a cub (2019 film only) and Donald Glover as an adult.
