Mufasa is a major character in Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. He was the king of the Pride Lands and the father of Simba. In the midst of his reign, Mufasa was killed by his envious brother, Scar, in an effort to steal the throne. Despite his death, Mufasa endures in the memories of his loved ones. His spirit manifested in clouds, stars, and sunlight, which has occasionally appeared to guide his descendants.
Mufasa is an exceptionally large and muscular lion, bearing powerful shoulders and a compact build. He has golden fur, with a beige muzzle, paws, and underbelly. His upper eye shades are darker than his main pelt, the lower eye shades are lighter, and his eyebrows are thick and black. Mufasa bears a thick mane of dark scarlet that extends down to his middle chest, and the tip of his tail matches it in color.
He was voiced by James Earl Jones, who was also the only reprising role in the 2019 remake of The Lion King. He is also known as the original voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars Trilogy. In Swahili, "Mufasa" means "King".
