Greetings, and welcome to the third annual 2025 Staff Drive!

Last year, we invited anyone interested in helping run e621's day-to-day operations to apply for a staff position. Now, we are looking for fresh janitors and moderators once again.

If you are interested in joining the staff team, please read this post in its entirety, and then fill out the short application below. If you applied last time, feel free to submit another application.

👲 👲 👲 [ Application Form ] 👰 👰 👰

The form will be open for two weeks and accept submissions until the 27th of April.

Expectations

We are looking for dependable people who can regularly spare about an hour a day to chip away at the site's post and ticket queue to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
We don't have any strict requirements except that you need to be friendly, helpful, and can keep a cool head when users are upset with you.
However, you need to have some level of activity on your account so we can properly assess you. Blank accounts will not be considered.
The reference code is 'dragon forest'. Remember this for when you are filling out your application.

Your history on the site will be reviewed if you apply for a staff position. Don't worry if you had a record or two from years ago, though. We believe that people can change and grow over time, and some hiccups in the past are not going to ruin your chances here.

Positions

These are volunteer positions, so your real life should take priority over e621.
The time requirements are not set in stone, and you will not be forced to handle anything outside of your comfort zone.
That said, we do expect a minimum level of contribution from all staff members.

Janitors and Moderators are equal to each other in rank. Feel free to select both in the application, but members will only occupy one position at a time.
In case you are not familiar with what the different positions do, here are the official job descriptions.

Janitor

Janitors are responsible for the approval queue.
They perform the following tasks:

  • Approve submissions that follow the Uploading Guidelines and delete the ones that do not.
  • Review and handle post flags.
  • Review and handle post replacements.
Moderator

Moderators are responsible for the ticket queue.
They perform the following tasks:

  • Review and handle support tickets related to comments, forum posts, and blips.
  • Hand out records and bans to users who break the site rules.

Due to the volume of interest, we will not be able to respond to everyone individually. If you have not heard from us by the end of June, then your application likely wasn't selected. However, we will keep it on file and may still refer to it later in the year.

Thank you for your interest, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

That's great! But uh, this is the parking lot and I'm walking to my car. Head inside 💁 and pick up an application.

One hour a day? Isn't that a bit too much?
I think it would be better to have more people with less volunteering time to spare, say around 10 minutes...
Consider that spending similar small spares of time on site I managed to give out 52000 favs over the years.

More people causes more conflict
Ideally you want as few people as possible so that there's less of a chance that people will step on eachother's toes and cause issues, it's already above 30 and I'm sure it's difficult enough at times to keep everyone meshing together well
now imagine that with 60+ people (like danbooru), without more management structures that would be an absolute nightmare
So many overlapping voices, differing values/opinions, experiences, etc

An hour a day really isn't that much, that's just 30 hours in a month, less than a full time job asks in a week
Also, how much do you think you're going to get done in 10 minutes? I can only speak on tickets but most valid tickets take several minutes at the bare minimum (presuming you aren't rushing), many spilling over 10, 15 minutes for a single ticket because of how many things you have to collect and go over

For approvals thumbnail approvals are highly discouraged, so you need to open each post, evaluate it, check some sources, then approve it
That's a few minutes at best, a rabbit hole's worth of time at worst
