Character: chara (undertale)
The fallen child in Undertale, "Chara" is considered to be the "canon" name for this character (from the placeholder name used in promotional material and the default value if forge a save file with no name).
On this site and elsewhere, for the sake of clarity, Chara represents an evil player character, which is how the player character is developed if you play a "genocide run". Even though this tag and protagonist_(undertale) technically refer to the same individual, it is usually recommended to use this tag or both in that case.
Spoilers for Undertale (Genocide and Pacifist endings)
As it is revealed in some endings of the game, the character whom the player controls is not the fallen child named by the player at the beginning of the game. The named child, Chara, is a completely different character who was already long dead by the time the game takes place. A genocidal player merely assumes Chara's identity as they follow in Chara's path of putting an end to both monsters and humans.
Spoilers for Undertale (Genocide ending only)
Said child appears to you directly in the genocide ending, as the player character starts turning into a character of its own and makes choices without the player's consent.
Because of this, Chara is usually portrayed with rosy cheeks, pale skin, and a green and yellow shirt, unlike the "normal" protagonist who has more of a yellow skin with a blue and purple shirt.
