Elmo is a character on the children's educational series Sesame Street.

He is a 3 and 1/2 year old fuzzy red monster born on February 3rd with a big orange nose. He speaks in a high-pitched falsetto voice and in the third person when referring to himself.

Introduced as a minor/supporting character in 1980, Elmo became a break-out character following his addition to the regular cast in 1985 during the season 17 premier, earning his own dedicated segment: "Elmo's World" which premiered on November 16, 1998. Subsequently, Elmo's World became the final segment of every episode of the series and was gradually expanded from 5 minutes to 15 minutes, roughly half the runtime of the average episode of Sesame Street.

Elmo is an extremely iconic character in the world of Sesame Street guest starring on numerous talk shows like The View and Good Morning America, TV Shows like Scrubs and the West Wing, and has Testified before Congress in 2002 for the urging of increased funding to music and art education.

In 1996, Tickle-Me Elmo was the bestselling Toy for Christmas that Year.
