A physical obstruction taking the form of staggered poles, usually made of metal, arranged to prevent passage through them while allowing for sight, speech, and potentially the passage of small items or limbs. If used for all four walls of a room or container, that is a cage, though cages may also be made out of wire or other restrictive structures.
