Maria Robotnik was a young, blonde human girl from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She was Professor Gerald Robotnik's granddaughter, and Shadow the Hedgehog's best friend. Maria was terminally ill with an incurable and fatal disease called Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome (NIDS). She was tragically shot and killed during G.U.N. raid while attempting to help Shadow escape.
Her passing had a big impact on Shadow's psyche and proved to be an event that would strongly influence the fate of the world in the decades that followed.
