Dr Pepper is a carbonated soft drink promoted as having a unique flavor based on a blend of 23 flavors. The drink was created in the 1880s by Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas and first served around 1885. It's usually an alternative to the standard colas such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi; in fact, Dr Pepper is served as a fountain drink option alongside one of the two big colas in many restaurants. Dr Pepper has inspired a number of other soft drinks with a similar taste to it, most notably Pibb Xtra (formerly Mr. Pibb).

The drink's name has been officially rendered without a dot (period/full stop) after "Dr" since the 1950s.
