Mega Man, known in Japan as "Rockman" (ロックマン Rokkuman), is the titular character of the video game series by Capcom and one of many "Robot Masters" created by Dr. Thomas Light

Originally a robot lab assistant by the name of "Rock," he and his sister, Roll, were created around the same time and designed to help their creator with his work and housekeeping. However, that all changed when the doctor's rival, Dr. Albert W. Wily, made a bold move, kidnapped all Dr. Light's manual-labor-focused androids, and reprogrammed them for destructive purposes. Having a strong sense of justice, Rock volunteered to be modified for combat to rescue his friends and stop Dr. Wily from causing harm. From that day onward, Rock was no longer just a boy-robot, but rather a super fighting robot for the good of all mankind!

When in "superhero" mode, he equips blue power armor made of a lightweight ceramic titanium which increases his defense without reducing his mobility. The armor also enable his signature weapon, the "Mega Buster," which is a relatively-limitless energy weapon that draws from his solar-powered core to fire highly-compressed balls of energy, and can be charged to fire a bigger projectile that is thrice as destructive. This weapon is further supplemented with Mega Man's "Variable Weapon System" which allows him to mimic weapon data of other Robot Masters, greatly expanding his arsenal. Unlike the Mega Buster, however, the Variable Weapon System has a limited supply of energy which must be refilled externally.

At his core, Mega Man is an artificial human made in the image of a preteen boy, right down to his behavior and clothes. Like most children, he's optimistic and endlessly curious, though somewhat naïve, as he has been tricked into letting Dr. Wily escape multiple times. He can also be somewhat brash, being quick to jump into situations without knowing all of the pertinent details. Despite this, he's shown to be very intelligent and quick to adapt to any given situation. However, when not fighting crime or helping around the lab, Mega Man is shown to enjoy things most boys his age like, such as soccer and video games – especially Street Fighter. He also likes playing with his robotic dog, Rush, and spending time with his family.
