Species: giant anteater
post #360878 post #1251729 post #454101
The giant anteater, also known as the ant bear, is an easily recognizable species of anteater and often the most iconic and well known of the species. Unlike other anteaters, the giant is mostly terrestrial (living on the ground), while the others are mostly or semi- arboreal (living in trees).
They, like others of the species, have elongated muzzles, and often have the longest snouts of the species as a whole. However, unlike the others, they lack a thin prehensile tail. Instead they have long, very bushy tails. They have a mainly black or brown coloration to their pelts, with a peppering of white and grey. They also have black and white banding stretching from the throat to the shoulders. Their unique coloration may or may not have been either a form of camouflage or possibly a warning coloration. Their necks also are thick and end at a hump on the backs of their necks.
