General Muscle Guide

Short for the grouping of abdominal muscles, the Abs support the erect upright gait of the body together with the back muscles and are responsible for forward mobility of the spine and torso in general. They also protect the organs of the abdomen as well as applying internal pressure on the organs for assisting in breathing as well as defecation or childbirth.

As a paired flat muscle group extending along the full length of the abdomen and converging on the crotch, they are vertically divided by the Lina Alba and horizontally bisected most commonly by 3 bands of connective tissue originating from the obliques. The abs are commonly visible as a set of roughly squared shapes bordered by furrows that are often referred to as a six-pack or eight-pack on very muscular characters.

If the abs are well developed and visible in the picture then it should be tagged.

  • Please note that in some cases a character may have bodyfat that is sufficient to obscure the horizontal bands of connective tissue, in such cases soft_abs may be used instead.
