Armor is any type of protective covering that prevents damage or, at the very least, mitigate it. Be it from impact to hazardous conditions. Coverage varies from vitals only to full body. Armor is often segmented into individual pieces, allowing the wearer to move around.
Note that armor is considered 'clothing' when tagging nude, fully clothed, etc.
