brigandine
Brigandine is a type of armor comprising small pieces of metal plating sewn or riveted underneath a piece of flexible material such as fabric or leather. Think of it as a reverse scale or splint armor, where the metal pieces are facing inwards rather than outwards. Brigandine can be made into any armor pieces from a rerebrace, a cuisse, to a cuirass.
Inspiration for Studded Armor
Brigandine is often mistaken for its fictional counterpart, the studded armor, which is just a piece of fabric or leather armor with metal studs and no metal plating underneath.
