rainbow pride flag

The rainbow flag was popularized as a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. It has since become internationally famous.

The flag is typically flown horizontally, with the red stripe on top (as it would be in a natural rainbow). The most common variant consists of six stripes in total: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet (from top to bottom).

Tag usage

This tag should only be used for examples that have a distinctly flag-shaped appearance, and anything else should use rainbow pride colors instead. There is an active BUR requesting an alias of this tag to rainbow_pride_colors. If that alias goes through the rainbow flag tag will persist as the tag for any flag containing a rainbow theme.
