A School Uniform describes any outfit clearly designed to be worn by students of a school or other educational institution. School uniforms can come in many forms, and differ between countries and schools.

School Uniform Items:

The following lists common clothing used for school uniforms, or commonly depicted types of school uniforms seen in art. This is not an exhaustive list:

Unisex Items:

• Jacket (or blazer), worn over a collared shirt.
• Dress Shirt worn with or without a necktie
• Polo Shirt almost always with a school emblem or crest
• Sweater or Sweater Vest oftentimes a button up cardigan, and usually worn over a collared shirt

Girls' Items:

Girls' school uniforms may be limited to unisex items, or combine one or more of the unisex items, with one or more of the following items below:

• Blouse (or dress shirt)
• Ribbons or Bow Tie
• Pleated Skirt Commonly plaid, black, blue or red
• Stockings, Thigh High Socks, or Knee Socks
• Mary Janes

Common Variants:

Western School Uniforms

Typically combines the following:

• Dress shirt/blouse (with or without tie),
• Dress pants or shorts for both sexes, but usually only worn by boys
• pleated skirt for girls (often tartan/plaid)
• Sweater or sweater vest
• Jackets (Blazer), usually with school insignia

Japanese School Uniforms

• Boys may be depicted wearing a dress shirt, trousers and tie, or wearing a uniform called a Gakuran, which consists of a button-up jacket with a standing collar, and dress pants, these uniforms are always black, or dark blue.
• Serafuku or Sailor Fuku, a style of outfit that consists of a blouse (usually white), sailor-style collar, and pleated skirt (usually blue), worn with a ribbon, neckerchief or bow tie. This is the most well known style of Japanese school uniform, and is strongly associated with Japanese culture.
