This tag is used when an element of the post has a glittery effect, like the kind you would see on a glistening object or surface with light refracting properties. A similar effect to sparkling is glare, a phenomenon in which many light photons are emitted or reflected off a surface causing a bright blinding light.

Sparkles are commonly used for effect, such as when an artist wants to draw attention to some aspect of the scene. This does not necessarily mean that object is glistening, and most of the time the sparkles are merely around the object, and not touching it.

Sparkles are used as a substitute for stars, but they should not be confused for stars. Sparkles should be considered as stars if used in a star context. The only exception to this is star eyes / star pupils, which is used for anything vaguely star-shaped.
