through screen
post #2777872 post #3970775 post #4672970 post #4536608
When a character is shown emerging from, or entering into, an electronic screen, such as through a computer monitor, television or smartphone. This also applies to a character sticking parts of their body into or out of a screen, or reaching into one screen, and their hand emerging through another.
This visual trope is strongly associated with characters who are digital or virtual in nature, and with supernatural horror entities, most famously seen with Sadako Yamamura from The Ring. Other characters such as Rambley Raccoon from Indigo Park and scp-1471-a ("Mal0") of SCP Foundation lore are also commonly seen with this trope.
Commonly Seen With...

- thinking with portals - when a character is using multiple screens to reach otherwise unreachable places, or access/present body parts in a way that would be impossible (e.g. a character's upper body emerging from one screen, and their butt emerging from another)
- reaching towards viewer
- talking to viewer
