The Lebel Model 1886 is an 8mm bolt-action infantry rifle first used by the French Army in 1887 and was the basic weapon of French infantry throuout WW1 (1914-1918). The first military firearm to use smokeless powder ammunition, it fired a flat-nosed 8mm full metal jacket bullet. By 1916, three French state factories had produced 3.45 million Lebel rifles.
