Originally founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and David Packard, HP was an electronics company mostly based off audio technology, which quickly moved into electronic analyzers and other electrical parts. During the second world war, HP produced many electronic equipment for the United States Army as well as producing technologies to counter electronics. After the war, HP slowly began investing into manufacturing, culminating in the company beginning production of semiconductors, and by the mid 1960s began producing their own computers, primarily for businesses.
By the 1970s HP began producing some of the first personal computers, handheld scientific calculators, and handheld programmable machines. By the end of the 1970s HP was producing a large selection of electronics from scientific analyzers to calculators. In the 1980s HP also invested further into office printers, and by the 1990s had begun to shift their focus away from office exclusive products. By the Great Recession, HP began to decline, eventually culminating in Hewlett-Packard dissolving into two companies, with Hewlett-Packard Enterprise becoming the primary software provider while HP Inc. became the primary computer and printer producer.
The modern HP Inc. was founded in 2015, and has since expanded out towards PC gaming to compete with other technology companies. While continuing to maintain significant presence in the printing market.
