A vampire is an undead that feeds on the blood of the living. When an especially cruel person dies, they can sometimes be offered a pact wherein they can escape hell by returning as a vampire to spread misery and pain. A condion of this is that they must feed on the blood of living people. Vampires can, through a ritual, cause a victim they feel close to-a lover, a son or daughter, a dear friend- become a vampire; and can raise their victims as lesser vampires, which are little better than zombies. However, it is not unheard of for vampires to have been raised unwillingly, by irresponsible sires or foolish Necromancers; vampires are themselves often necromancers.

Vampires have the ability to command bats and wolves by thought, discorporate into vapour, shapechange into animals, control the minds of humans by eye contact, and fly unaided. Vampires can be warded away by garlic and crucifixes; and need permission to enter a home that doesn't belong to them. A spike or stake of wood of a fruit-bearing tree or silver stabbed into the heart can kill weak or lesser vampires; for greater vampires, the stake simply paralyzes them. The head must be removed, and the holes in the neck must be stuffed with rose flowers; the two parts must then be burned and scattered in a river.
