When an innocent dies in misery and horror, they may refuse to enter the Land of the Dead and haunt the place they died, punishing their earthly tormentors or attempting to bring their murderer to justice, similar to a revenant. Alternatively, they may have perished so suddenly they refuse to accept they have, in fact died; and upon returning home, become steadily more frustrated at being ignored or having a "squatter" move into what they still think of as their house, and attempt to attract attention or drive away the intruder. Unlike a poltergeist, which has no shape, a specter looks like the person it was in life-usually how they look immediately after death-and can be communicated with normally rather than only through a Medium.
