caparison
A caparison (or horse-trapper) is a horse's cloth covering for the purpose of either protection or decoration. It's basically a full body skirt and it covers the animal from the haunches to the shoulders or head.
Typically it's worn by a knight's horse. Additional armour can be placed atop the caparison.
