
Character: chirin (ringing bell)
Chirin is the main protagonist of the 1978 short anime film Ringing Bell.
Chirin starts the film as a young lamb with snow white wool, and a bell around his neck. He lives a happy and carefree life with his mother up until the wolf Woe attacks his farm and his mother dies trying to protect him.
Chirin swears vengeance against Woe, traveling from the farm where he lived to the mountains to find Woe. He asks Woe to teach him how to be a wolf so he can be strong. Woe, agrees and over time, Chirin's appearance and personality change. As an adolescent Chirin has long shaggy wool and as an adult he becomes a terrifying ram with long grey wool and long spear-like horns.
As Woe's apprentice, Chirin is seen powerful enough to break through large boulders with a headbutt and gore bears and other larger predators to death with his horns.
Chirin is voiced by the late Minori Matsushima who played Sayaka Yumi in Super Robot Wars and Vice Admiral Tsuru in One Piece. Chirin is dubbed by Barbara Goodson who dubbed Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers, Naota in FLCL, and Turbo Granny in DanDaDan. As an adult, he is voiced by Akira Kamiya who voiced Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star and dubbed by Gregg Berger the official voice of Odie from the Garfield franchise and Ripto from the Spyro series.
