Domo's original idea for Camp Pines was just a kind of neutral ground cameo setting. He had the universe his characters and their stories were set in, I had mine, other friends had theirs, and he wanted some place neutral to bring them all together. I thought it sounded fun so I joined in. However, as we worked on the setting and drew our characters in it more, we decided that we actually preferred it to the kinda generic, dystopian cyberpunk/sci-fi settings we'd made for our characters originally. The nostalgic 80's slice-of-life kind of setting spoke to us more. So we made it the canon setting for our characters and have worked on it cooperatively since.

The eponymous camp is a summer camp for teenage girls in the setting; it is mostly a normal summer camp, with the addition of some sex ed classes geared towards helping teen girls who are struggling with managing their heat cycles. Less openly, the camp offers additional services to these girls, ranging from providing sex toys for them to take home (paid for out of their camp tuition and fees) to offering the counselors up for them to experiment with and work some of their sexual needs out with.

A lot of what we draw is focused on the characters we had before creating Camp Pines that we moved to the setting and made it their new home/canon. Seff, Luna, Makwa, etc. They have their own stories that we would like to tell, but real life has greatly conspired against us. For a lot of the last several years my art output was generally guided by what people on my Patreon wanted. Domo has been very busy with work. Things are starting to look up, as he has switched jobs and may start having more free time soon, and I have closed down my Patreon and have been making some changes in my personal life that may allow me to start working on stuff for it. It's unlikely to be a regular webcomic; we might do some stories as comics, others as like illustrated stories, we've got different ideas and things we would like to try.

Despite what their shirts may say, I do not believe this picture and it's child are suitable for the camp_pines tag. The camp_pines tag is for images in Domovoi and I's setting. Aside from the design of their shirts being incorrect for the setting, the characters themselves are not suitable for the setting (Camp Pines is a camp for girls, not male or intersex characters). They may be attending a camp named Camp Pines, but I do not believe it is the same one as implied by the camp_pines tag.

The girls are certainly taught and encouraged to use condoms, but in the early-mid 80's condom usage was not as prevalent as it was today. It was on the upswing, as it provided an effective method to protect yourself against HIV/AIDS. The pill was still the most common BC method, and no doubt many of the girls at the camp have a prescription for it. In this universe/setting, there are additional methods for BC (if not necessarily STD prevention, but since when has worrying about STDs made for good porn?). The simplest is just having sex with people outside your species, since hybrids generally aren't a thing. Inside the camp itself, they have an herbal tea available that works as birth control. This is a tribal formulation provided by the Camp's direwolf shaman, Makwa.

For this picture/these characters in particular, Seff is not a camper. She would benefit from the camp's safe sex lectures and free condoms, but she's there because she lives there. She spends her summers running around the woods causing trouble, not doing any regular camp activities. Makwa is Seff's adopted parent, so she does have access to the herbal tea. However, Seff despises the "leaf juice" and often refuses to drink it. Like usual, she is a bad example, and should not be taken as representative of the ideal behavior.
