A highway is a road designed for high speed, and high capacity vehicle travel. Highways can be distinguished from other types of roads by the presence of multiple lanes of travel, and distinctive signage including large overhead road signs. Highways tend to be separated from populated areas and only accessible by specialized access roads, but this does not apply to all highways. Highways are also associated with long distance driving, especially on roads with few curves or recognizable landmarks.
