
Species: leopard tortoise
The leopard tortoise (Stigmochelys pardalis) is a distinctively spotted tortoise native to the savannas from eastern and central Africa. It is the fourth largest tortoise in the world, reaching 16 in (40cm) in length. Juveniles and young adults display the distinctive spots and blotches that give the species its name, but adults tend to fade to gray or brown as they age. They are classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
