stitch (sewing)
A loop or knot of thread that is made when sewing. A stitch may be created by hand (using a needle and thread) or with a sewing machine and is used to hold fabric together (seam (sewing)), to prevent fraying (the fabric unraveling at the edges), or for making decorative designs for example.
