A component is a smaller part of a device or mechanism. This is a broad term that includes both external and internals parts that contribute to the function or design of a device. Components generally fall into more specific categories based on the primary function of the component.

It may not be useful to tag every example of a component. This tag is most useful on posts showing partially or fully disassembled devices, and especially examples of loose components. It also serves as an umbrella tag for various objects known to be used as components of other objects.

General Categories

- These groups are applicable to a wide variety of products. Many products will contain one or more of these types of components.

Specific Categories

- These groups are apply to specific products. Components in these groups will have designs belonging to a specific product group. A component may belong in a specific category and a general category.

• car_component - Parts of cars, trucks etc
• spacecraft_component - Parts of any kind of spacecraft
• watercraft_component - Parts of boats, ships, submarines, jetskis etc
