Associated Species
Geranospiza, and Polyboroides genera traditionally are placed within Circinae, but the validity of this placement is in question. Members of the genus Circus are suggested to be more closely associated with Accipter and the true hawks, while these two genera are more closely associated with buteo, and the Buteoninae subfamily of the Accipitridae. The term true harrier would refer to any species of the genus Circus, which would exclude these two genera.
