The Byzantine Empire (alternatively the Eastern Roman Empire or Byzantium) was a continuation of the Roman empire during the Late Antiquity and Middle Ages between 330 AD and 1453.
The style of art during this time period can be characterized by its Christian subjects, elaborate designs, use of precious metals and gems, and fairly bad anatomy.
