life support is the practice of keeping any living being alive through artificial means. the term "life support" is often referred in intensive medical use, meaning to keep a patient in critical condition (such as coma) alive through a set of medical apparatus supporting the body's vital functions, or taking over the vital functions of the body to keep itself alive if the patient's body is unable to perform the vital functions by itself in the critical condition.
