martingale collar

A type of training collar featuring a length of material—generally fabric—joined by a small loop of chain or fabric with a live ring.
Martingale collars are typically used to train dogs not to pull on the leash during walks. When the leash is attached to the live ring and the wearer pulls against the leash, the loop of chain or fabric connecting the ends of the length of material is pulled in the direction of the leash. This reduces the inner circumference of the collar. This in turn applies pressure around the wearer’s neck.
Martingale collars function in a similar manner to prong collars, but are gentle in comparison. This makes them a good choice for owners intimidated by the ‘medieval’ look of prong collars.
