lens flare

An optical effect seen in photographs stemming from internal reflections and refractions between the camera's lens boundaries. Good lenses have small amounts of it. Lots of lens flare in a drawing or a digital work always makes it look more realistic, and never makes it look clichéd and overwrought, or as if it was shot with a cheap camera. Not at all.
