The tag alias #78668 corrupted -> corruption has been approved.

Reason: The corrupted tag is used very similarly to corruption.

Although one is past tense and the other is present tense, both can be used to describe an already corrupted state (eg., "They have been corrupted" and "Their corruption is evident") or active corruptive effects in a scene (eg., "They are being corrupted" and "They are succumbing to corruption"). The language ambiguity in usage means that the terms are largely interchangeable for tagging purposes.

EDIT: The tag alias corrupted -> corruption (forum #460549) has been approved by @spe.

I wonder if corruption ought to be split or invalidated... it seems like it gets used for multiple different things, ranging from more mundane moral corruption/grooming to hypnosis to full on demonic transformation and assimilation, all at similar rates.

I second this. It's a valid concept, but the tag needs a tighter definition.

To invalidate corruption, you'll have to find one or several other terms that describe that concept and that is sufficiently known for people to thing tagging post correctly. I've personally looked for that and I found none that were both specific enough to not be misused and simple enough to get traction amount the fandom.

corruption is a tag with only 6k+ post, it's far from other popular tags

Corruption is also a very large concept in itself. It covers transformation on several levels:

Moral: lost of purity, descendent into decadence (demon/evil), becoming evil (demon/villain in superhero tropes),
Psychological: Unwanted/modified thoughts (mind control), simplification of thoughts (drones), modification of intellect (drone/feralization)
Physical: Mutations, Transformation into monster (goo/mutant/demon/robots/cybervirus), augmentation of sexual traits (genitalia growth, genital additions/mutations)
Other: Lost of innocence, Autonomy, or Purity into one of decadence, submission, dehumanization, or sexual dominance.

So you have the following thematic, but none have real traction in the fandom or would be an acceptable substitute:
