Topic: Why the hell gigolo and alphons aren't tags?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

not sure what alphons is, but gigolo is just a male prostitute and we don't need gendered job terms, (IE waiter and waitress, etc)

uh you know because also gigolo isn't quite just a male prostitute, it is also a man who lives on women's guardianship and maintenance in relationship or not in exchange for intimacy

Either because nobody is actively using them or because they don't meet the TWYS policy.

Then just tag them as being an escort or prostitute, whenever appropriate.

That sort of sounds like a sugar mama type thing.

Maybe an alias like Gigolo -> Male_prostitute/escort wouldn't hurt but it's going to be awhile for it lol.

well about 4 of us have asked you what it means and you still haven't explained.

I'm like 50/50 on it being a ligma at this point.

You probably speak some cyrillic langauge but "alphonse" and "gigolo" are really archaic Euro-English slang. Not that many people use gigolo and "alphonse" is clearly pretty much expired, at least in English.

Nuh uh

Please don't be coy. This is not a guessing game.

In English, Alphons is a given name with a number of variations. It's in French where alphonse refers to a pimp due to the the main character in the play Monsieur Alphonse by Alexandre Dumas (Junior). In Dutch and Polish, it's alfons that means "pimp", from the same source material.

This should answer half your question right there. As e621 is an English-oriented site, we already use the English word pimp. If alphons were a tag here, it would need to be aliased to pimp.

If this isn't the meaning you intended, just come out and say it so we can all be on the same page.

As for gigolo, in English, it refers to a male prostitute. There might be a few variations on the theme, but at the end of the day, it's functionally the same thing as prostitute, and thus is redundant. If gigolo were to be tagged again, it would need to be aliased away as well.

it's completely not that thing.
as I said just a sugar mommy's male partner as I and someone above said, describing it good

Alfons is the default Polish word for a pimp.

I mean alphons is like a complete opposite to a pimp, since alphons is sugar mommy's boy basically who is maintained in exchange for intimacy kinda and pimp is like literally someone who maintaining prostitutes and manages them

like just nvm, english language even if one of the richest languages in the world just can't describe this word, can't come up with anything else than just "sugar mommy's fuck boy who just lives for her money, not neccessarily some femboy tho, usually metrosexual men (and in serious stable relationship btw)"

No, you did not. You only explained it in the comment after.

Responding with и followed by Nuh uh does not explain anything about what "alphons" mean.
If it is not even a word that can be easily found in an English dictionary, we should not even use it since most people use English for tagging.

The proper English term for the recipient of a "sugar_daddy/sugar_mommy" is called a "sugar_baby".

it's completely not that thing.

Nobody is saying your definition for a "gigolo" is wrong. It's just that most definitions point to them being male prostitutes, even though they did not always get paid in exchange for sexual services.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigolo
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gigolo

I believe if gigolo were to ever return as a tag, it should not be aliased to prostitute since the wiki definition for that requires "offering sexual activity in exchange for payment."
