Topic: Anyone good at drawing monkey faces?

Posted under Art Talk

I'm trying to get my monkey character to look right but, something always seems off. Either the head looks too round or too small or the muzzle seems strange. I know monkey characters aren't popular in the furry fandom but, I still want to flesh him out. If it helps I'm aiming for a manga semi-realistic look using the "how to draw manga furries" books by Tuttle.

Don't sweat it, Monkey faces are notoriously hard to do since they
don't really have the two part muzzle layout the usual furry style
has, Dood!

When tackling a monkey face you gotta get down how you'd do a
human/non-anthro face first. Since a monkey face will stem off that
baseline as an addition rather than a separate world, Dood!

For me, My style really rewards the circular look with simple features
at its core. Elongate the nose, circle the jaw and boom, Monkey, Dood! ◠‿◠)~★

For you, I would say look inward before looking for tips outward.
You've already got a personal note you're trying to hit, a
"manga semi-realistic"-tone. Play around with that idea by
free handing some ways you'd like for it to look, Dood!

They're not going to be perfect, and that's fine!
