Topic: Do we need both "pent up" and "sexual frustration"?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

pent_up and sexual_frustration seem to be describing the same thing, especially given that tags are limited to visual cues. Is there a meaningful difference between them, or can they be lumped together?

Pent_up, frustrated/frustration/sexual_frustration, in_heat, in_rut [edit: forgot this was aliased away], and aroused are unfortunately tags that don't play well with TWYS. Personally, I use pent_up for LOTS of signs of arousal, like throbbing_penis AND looking_at_own_penis AND breath AND excessive_precum all at once, but I'll admit it's pretty vague. On paper, is pent_up (frustration from lack of orgasm) and sexual_frustration (sex-related frustration) different? ...Maybe? Is there a difference that's tag-worthy and realistic for users to adhere to? I'm not sure. I don't have time to look into the tags right now to check how they're currently being used.

Looking through pent_up, it appears to be used to indicate any or all of sexual_frustration, in_heat, masturbation, orgasm_denial, excessive_genital_fluids, sex_request/invitation_to_sex, and/or characters who are simply aroused. A few explicitly describe characters as "pent up" via text, but visually they're indistinguishable from regular arousal. I think that's far too broad for the tag to be useful. I think it should probably be invalidated, with the wiki page directing people to the other applicable tags already listed there.

The way the wiki describes it, it is effectively a potential reason for why other tags might be present, which is something that's pretty hard to determine objectively. Like, if there's a picture of a character masturbating, you can't determine if it's because they're pent up or for some other reason unless there's dialogue explicitly stating so.

What's the difference between sexually_frustration and in_heat? Is it dialogue?

From the wiki:

Sexual frustration is when one is starved of sexual release for long periods of time.

That's different from a heat period, which is a state of extreme heightened arousal caused by a hormonal cycle. In practice, however, the two can look similar or overlap (with characters showing desperation or begging for sex).
