"Pterodactyl" is an extremely common slang term to refer to any species of pterosaur, most commonly Pteranodon as opposed to Pterodactylus . It is similar to how "raptor" is a common slang term for all dromaeosaurs, not just Velociraptor. Mistags of "pterodactyl" are applying incorrect species tags to hundreds of posts.
