"MordeTwi" is just the ship name; it's not the "airplanes in the night sky" bit. If we're tagging for specifically that meme format, the appropriate tag name would be "airplanes" – not "mordetwi"; but that's neither here nor there.

Like the title says, not every MordeTwi art was a mere meme image; there was a time when the ship was actually sort of popular in some circles of DeviantArt way before the original Airplanes drawing was published – and then became the only thing the ship was remembered for. People just kept calling that meme (or anything that vaguely resembled it) "MordeTwi" for some reason, even when the ship had nothing to do with it; I don't think it's iconic of them.
My request is simple: remove the unnecessary "meme" implication from "mordetwi".
Just adding this for redundancy: not every MordeTwi art is the Airplanes meme, and not every Airplanes redraw is MordeTwi.

I don't necessarily need a Bulk Update for this, I don't think – as far as I know, that is. I only need the "meme" tag removed from one particular image, really – and that is: post #5528564

Isn't easier to just remove the tag from non-meme posts? Or rename as "Mordetwi_(meme)" because then I'll be just nuked because we don't have tag for ships I think.

For the purposes of the tag on the site, it is just the meme - that's the only taggable aspect. A ship is not taggable aside from just tagging the characters separately. Any uses that don't reference the meme are invalid (including your example). Yes, renaming would likely be best.

Then it literally should have just been called "airplanes". There's been a lot of other art here that have Mordecai and Twilight in it that are tagged "mordetwi", but were not redraws or references to bluedog444's original Airplanes.
The image I gave is a perfect example of MordeTwi – because MordeTwi was already a huge thing (sort of) back in late 2011 to early 2012 (on DeviantArt), and this image came out during that time (around early to mid 2012, way before bluedog's image).

Just look at the wiki page for that tag already, it's already about the ship and where it actually started, and it's not so much about bluedog's original image. It's much simpler to just un-implicate "meme" from MordeTwi.

What people are trying to tell you is that we don’t keep ship tags. So it’s either this tag gets completely nuked, or it gets renamed and anything non airplanes related gets removed from the tag.

it'd be untenable; we're not a single-fandom site, we don't have the luxury of only having a set amount of characters to worry about. I mean, just from MLP alone, even if we only tagged intra-universe ships, with no OCs, it'd be in the ballpark of 5,000 tags, if we include other universes that number goes up multiplicatively, if we include cross-ships (y'know, like mordetwi) that number goes up exponentially.

Reason: My request is twofold, actually: 1) rename "mordetwi" to "airplanes_(meme)" or other, and 2) remove the tag from images that have nothing to do with the Airplanes meme/format – such as this image for example:

The reasoning behind this is that, apparently, the tag was largely used for the "Airplanes" meme anyway – and it would just be more appropriate if the tag were a little more inclusive for other pairings; and shipping tags aren't allowed here anyway, so I think the tag should not be named after a ship – especially when the meme/format already had a title of its own to begin with.

I've had a couple or so images removed from this tag back then, because they didn't feature the Mordecai x Twilight pairing; now they should be brought back under the new name of "Airplanes".

I included the forum topic purely for the sake of having a forum to link back to, but the title/suggestion and the argument of the initial post is largely irrelevant, as I have come to a completely different decision.

I feel like people don't realize that MordeTwi is not the "airplanes in the night sky" bit; it's just a ship, but it just so happens to be featured in that infamous drawing, but still it pre-dates that drawing (by about a year).

I dunno, I just don't like the idea of calling every crappy Airplanes meme "MordeTwi". And like I said anyway in the request: I don't think there should be any shipping tags, or tags named after a ship.

Wait, is that how that works? I'm literally new to this thing. I'm so sorry. I thought alias just means you just give the tag an alternative name, but still keep the old name. My goal is to just replace the name of the tag; can't they just rename the pre-existing tag?

Yes. Update will keep both tags. This is not what we want since mordetwi is not a valid tag since we don’t tag ships.

The best bet is to alias mordertwi to airplanes, or to update mordetwi to airplanes and the invalidate mordetwi
