Remove the Bible implications, bible and christianity are a mess which should be dealt completely separately.

Mary Magdalene was not created by the Judas and Jesus film, so that's a hard no.
The characters from the film should implicate the film that they're from, so that's good.
The characters from the film should not implicate the Theological characters that they are parodying.
Those last four implications should not exist, they belong to the Theology, not the book.

The correct route according to what your reason is would in fact be to manually update the Mary tag to include the _(judas_and_jesus) addendum. Just copy that and paste it onto the Mary tag where applicable.

they said update not alias for mary, update will just move all of the images to the new tag but not merge the tags together, so if all current pictures belong to mary_magdalene from judas and jesus that is valid.

they're still depictions of said biblical characters are they not? much like if an artist creates a distinct depiction of (let's say) donald trump that becomes a popularized and distinct character, it should always implicate donald_trump unless there is precedent for this distinction

I understand the difference, my logic holds. Same with what people told me on my BUR about poison ivy and itching powder: even though all of the existing art did suggest the implications, that doesn't justify their existence.

Fan-games do not implicate the originals. See the Undertale Yellow BUR for a very recent decision. Then replace it with Judas_and_Jesus and Christianity.
Same reason why they decided that Pokemon, no matter how clear of an animal they look like, they cannot implicate a specific Species.

Edit: An even simpler comparison would be the Fakemon tag. It doesn't implicate Pokemon

is there any precedent for creating a tag for a derivative version of a character and implying it back to the original? because like, for example, we've only got one robin_hood character tag, and not a separate one for the one from Disney's movie.

im not talking about any of the implications. i'm only talking about the update from mary_magdalene to mary_magdalene_(judas_and_jesus). she should not be tagged as plain mary_magdalene, but it would make no sense to alias here to mary_magdalene_(judas_and_jesus). an update would solve that issue.

I can't say for certain that there are no derivative implicating the original, but the precedent that they shouldn't has been made crystal clear.
Funny Challenge for you though: Search the entirety of the robin_hood tag (or its movie tag, if this is just for the character) and find the posts that only refer to the Anglo legend

Funny thing, that. I've made two BURs that were trying to fix the whole Robin Hood situation. Nothings come of it yet, but I'm patient.
