Topic: STD Merger

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #10814 is pending approval.

create alias stds (6) -> std (142)
create alias syphilis (4) -> std (142)
create alias hiv (42) -> std (142)
create alias aids (21) -> std (142)
create alias herpes (2) -> std (142)
create alias sexually_transmitted_disease (2) -> std (142)

Reason: None of these tags have over 200 uses and can all be condensed down into a single tag.

(My apologies if I submitted this wrong).

Underuse alone is not a sufficient reason to merge or invalidate a tag.

These diseases have distinct visible symptoms from each other.

At the very least you can agree "Stds" and "Sexually_Transmitted_Disease" are redundant, right?

I can see stds and sexually_transmitted_disease being aliased to std as valid. I also think hiv and aids should be aliased one way or another, since aids is just the disease that hiv causes, so having these two tagged separately seems largely redundant. I'm also not entirely convinced aids/hiv can be tagged through TWYS since the symptoms are pretty nonspecific, but that's a separate issue.
