The tag alias #75943 smiley_face -> smile_symbol is pending approval.

Reason: This renaming suggestion is a little bit arbitrary, but I honestly feel like this is really needed. People keep routinely mistaking the tag for something intended for images of characters smiling, because the naming is not as self explanatory as you might think, especially with not an insignificant amount of users who do not speak English fluently. I feel like this change would make it more obvious what is the intended purpose of the tag. Of course if anyone has any better options for new name, it would be great to hear those.

Could split the difference with smiley_face_symbol.

There aren't as many mistags as I feared, but there definitely are some that would need cleaning. I also wonder how instances like these should be handled:

They're not a smiley face symbol/emoji, but they're not regular smiling faces either.

I don't know it this solves that thought but I think those faces should at least implicate emoji

You can't make tags which start with : anymore.
But due to how the system works you can't alias them away either
