Topic: [REJECTED] Bringing fenghuang in line with other mythological tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #10614 has been rejected.

remove alias fenghuang (0) -> mythological_fenghuang (65)

Reason: Other mythological creatures are just listed as the creature, such as Pegasus, Phoenix, unicorn, dragon, so it seems really weird to insist on including Mythological as a prefix to fenghuang, and outside the normal naming scheme on e621.

ONce this is run, the following needs to be run to reverse it.
alias mythological_fenghuang -> fenghuang

A good point. It's not like there's any real life species or much of anything else in real life named "fenghuang" to compete with it.

FWIW, I still think mythology is over-used with regard to common fantasy species, like dragons, which are a lot more diverse around here compared to their mythological roots they're being tagged for. In the same vein, some mythological creature names have taken on a more broad meaning. Like leviathan, which is a specific sea serpent demon referenced in the bible, however these days it can also mean unrelated large sea creatures or sea monsters more generally. So a name like mythological_* can help clarify when a name is referring to the specific mythological creature, instead of a broader range of fictional creatures that may be called with the same name. I don't know whether "fenghuang" has this multi/layered meaning, but it's something to consider.

It specifically refers to an eastern conception of a Phoenix and is not common enough within the furry Fandom to require the mythological prefix. In fact it's already aliased to itself
