The tag alias #74767 poker_cards -> playing_card has been approved.

Reason: The cards used in poker are no different from the cards used in bridge, president, Black Lady, euchre, pinochle, etc. They are all just playing cards.

The reasoning makes perfect sense to me, there are no "poker cards" but just a standard deck of playing cards used in many games.

However, I wonder if poker might be a better alias target.

• 1) playing_card has 1654 results to poker's 519. Aliasing to playing_card will result with typing "poker" giving playing_card as the very first result.
• 2) if people are tagging poker_cards there is more than likely a game of poker being played. I think poker is a more useful tag than the generic playing_card tag for searches, but admittedly that's very subjective.

Unfortunately it's being tagged without a game of poker being played or visible, just cards or card symbols.

I disagree. Poker is just the game most likely to be associated with these cards, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything poker or poker-related will be going on in the picture, just that, "these cards are the ones used in poker". Users call them poker cards because they can't think of anything better to call them.
