My understanding has always been that everything's one of human/humanoid/anthro/feral/taur, but the current merfolk and humanoid_merfolk pages claim they're not humanoid, so what are they? Meanwhile, the humanoid page uses a mermaid for its first example image.

split_form. Those 5 you mentioned aren't all of them, there are some more esoteric form tags. Also humanoid_merfolk doesn't imply humanoid for the same reason humanoid taur doesn't (lower body isn't remotely similar to humans).

wait, what? since when are we not tagging merfolk as humanoid? we tag it on lamia, we tag it on satyr, we tag it on faun and minotaur, and any other non-taur split_form, why not merfolk?

Possibly because if they were on land, it would be hard for them to stay upright.
Apart from that I see no reason for merfolk to not be humanoid except that many of them have a scaled-upper body. So in order for any merfolk to be humanoid, we'd need to separate them into scaled and non-scaled merfolk, at least as far as the upper body is concerned.

Pretty sure merfolk can mean anthro or human weighed appearances

I don't think anyone's trying to argue that merfolk should imply humanoid, we're saying that humanoid merfolk (like the standard mermaid) should be tagged as humanoids, just like satyrs and lamias are.

This feels like the same sort of silliness that says taurs can't be humanoid or anthro.

For the record a change being made by a staff member does not guaranty that it actually is/was correct or without flaws.

I do find the exclusion of merfolk being tagged directly as humanoid quite odd when merfolk being tagged with anthro by comparison seems perfectly fine. I do kinda understand the taur exception because it actually is 2 full separate bodies merged together but in the case of mermaid style merfolk it is basically just a tail not a full fish body, same with lamias(granted beyond the position of the genitalia on those it is harder to define wether we are talking about a serpent's full body or just its tail)...
