Topic: Consistency UK-english/US-english

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Gray has been aliased to grey more often than the other way around, so shouldn't all *gray* tags that aren't names be aliased to grey? I'm a fan of consistency.

This is the UK-english spelling, but more tag groups are dominated by the US-english spelling. Think of colour/color.

I'd prefer to see UK-english everywhere, but since more furs are from the USA than the UK, US-english will probably be used. I'd be fine with both, as long as the tags are consistent.

If you agree, also say if you prefer UK or US English please.

not this again

He's not complaining, he's asking for consistency, which is certainly a valid request.

I'm all for changing it to grey for those tags that are still gray; aliases will make this easy.

US English, makes things a lot easier. Besides most spell checkers dont even have UK english, lets keep the u's out of our colors; shall we?

We're not talking about colour, we're talking about grey/gray. And I don't know about you, but my Chrome thinks gray and color are incorrect spellings of the word, while grey and colour are perfectly fine.

Yeah, we normally use the US-English.

I have both dictionaries on all of my browsers. You can download any additional dictionaries you think you need from the pages of your browser, be it mozilla, google or any of the others.

Mixing usa english and uk english sounds like a bad idea as the grammar nazis would get upset with me.

No thanks I rather not sound like someone from the Uk who thinks the word 'mom' is spelled with a U.

I hope you know that any feedback you provide for this topic in this thread after that comment is going to be disregarded completely. :I

I just think we should make e621's standard font webdings.

Some people tend to forget Uk english even exists and get on people for using it. So I wouldn't even want a uk English spellchecker as it would be terrible if I where to have a post with usa english and uk english mixed into each other, as it would be massively confusing in a sense.

There was no insult intended.

Huh, they don't work that way, you will have to choose which one is currently active, I regularly switch between all three (German, UK-English and US-English) because I need them. You just have to remember which one you are currently using or else everything will get squiggly lines beneath it.

But other than that, you won't just see both of them active at the same time and fucking up your spell check.

Oh, alright then. Good to know. I thought it would be both spellcheckers on at the same time. If you dared mixed uk and usa english.. you know some grammar nazi would want to jump on you for that.

I'm pro UK, but since the site refers to favorites, I'd say all tags should be in US-english. So grey should become gray.

I'm glad nobody mentioned the metric versus imperial system discussion yet. Oh wait.

I don't care if it's grey or gray, just as long as:

  • they all get aliased to the "right" spelling of the tag (whichever grey/gray is decided on).
  • And standardizing them to be consistent with each other would also be nice. It's just nice.

I tend to spell it both ways, so this would help keep me sane to not have to worry about which tag goes which way. lol

I prefer UK, but understand we're using US English because E621 is based in the US, and appeals more towards US furries.

Can an admin please mass-edit all normal grey* tags, *colour tags, and so on? It's pretty un-doable; it'll take ages with my phone.

I could change that.

Every school I've gone to (in the US) has taught grey. In fact, I didn't even know people used gray until I was in my 20's. It seems only a small portion of americans use it, as opposed to the rest of the country, and world.

Perhaps someone should tell Varka that, due to their way of doing dates. xD

You can take Varka out of Scotland, but you can't take Scotland out of Varka.
