Do we need distinct tags for a tail doing these things? Wouldn't tail_auto* tags be largely the same as auto*+ tail_masturbation? This seems like it would then allow for finger_auto*, tongue_auto*, and other body parts. It also seems like these could be confused between fellatio/cunnilingus/rimming/etc being performed on a tail_penis or literal tailhole (or just treating a tail like a dildo for tail_autofellatio, without a visible penis on it), vs a tail mouth performing fellatio/cunnilingus/rimming/etc on the character.

I think you made a mistake there and accidentally wrote tail_cunnilingus when you meant tail_autocunnilingus.

It looks like a fair number of posts tagged tail_cunnilingus is meant to be tail_autocunnilingus, people getting the two mixed up.

I'll concede that tail_autopenetration would be like tail_masturbation autopenetration, but the other tags, like tail autofellatio don't mesh well. See tail_masturbation autofellatio. These are to cover a tail_mouth doing the action (on that note should we imply tail mouth to them?)
And the difference between the hypothetical finger_auto* and tongue_auto* is that finger_mouths and tongue_mouths aren't that common

That may be the intent, but the tag name doesn't give the impression that it's not for a tail/tail_penis being fellated. A character fellating their own tail as if it was a penis, or an actual tail_penis, would still be something worth tagging, and a tag like tail_autofellatio sounds like that would apply.
As an aside, I have trouble considering it autofellatio/masturbation when a separate tail_mouth, with its own apparent mind and behavior, is pleasuring the character the genitals belong to. Unlike a multi-head scenario like cerberus or a hydra where you essentially have multiple heads controlling one body, a tail_mouth/tail_head feels more like a separate entity from the owner of the body, and thus not really pleasuring themself but the character they're connected to. It comes across more as a parasitic relationship, rather than multiple heads "owning" the same body.

I feel like this level of reasoning is beyond the scope of e621 tagging, but also, a complete extra head seems like it would have more autonomy than just a mouth.
